Celebrating the life of

Lindsay Grayson Svetlay

Passed away on July 22, 2024

Lindsay Grayson Svetlay

Lindsay Grayson Svetlay, 82, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, at home with her family by her side.  She was born August 2, 1941, in Dobbs Ferry, NY to the late George and Hilda Grayson.  She attended college at St. Mary of the Woods in (Terre Haute), Indiana and graduated from the University of Montevallo, (Montevallo) Alabama with a Batchelor’s Degree in Home Economics.

She lived in Tucker, GA for over 50 years, where she was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church.  While at Holy Cross, she served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.  She was a highly involved member and volunteer of the church.

She and her husband Victor retired to Pensacola, FL, where they spent over 20 years before moving to Savannah, GA in 2020.  While in Florida, she was a parishioner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Pensacola.

She had many hobbies and spent many hours sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren and also making Raggedy Ann dolls when she was younger.   She was an active member of the Garden Club, and she was a collector of Longaberger Baskets. She was also the president of the Atlanta Chapter of the P. Buckley Moss Society.  All throughout her life she enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her friends and family. She loved taking classes at Ursula’s Cooking School in Atlanta, Ga and her family regarded her as a gourmet chef. Lindsay loved to travel and some of her most cherished memories were spent with her husband out West and with her friends in the P. Buckley Moss Society.  Another special trip included traveling to Rome, Italy with her aunt (Sister Christine Marian) where she received a private audience and papal blessing from Pope John Paul II.  Something that filled Lindsay with the most pride was she was a founding member of CURE at their inception with her son’s doctor, Dr. Abdel Ragab, to further research for childhood cancer.

Her highest and greatest joy from God was her family. She took great pride in her loving husband, daughters, son, and grandchildren. There was nothing she loved more than to be surrounded by her family, whether at the beach, playing cards, or gathered around the table for one of her world class meals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Victor Ward Svetlay, Jr.  She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Victor Ward Svetlay, two daughters, Allison Pinholster (John), and Shannon Townsend (Steve), two grandchildren, Ian Pinholster (Maggie), and Grayson Pinyan (Daniel).  In addition, Lindsay is survived by her Aunt Sister Christine Marian, brother- in -law and sister-in-law, Joe and Sarah Svetlay, three nephews, and one niece.

Visitation will be Friday, July 26, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Atlanta, GA located at 3773 Chamblee-Tucker Road, Atlanta GA  30341

The funeral mass will follow the visitation at 1:00 pm at Holy Cross with a burial to follow at Floral Hill Memory Garden, in Tucker Georgia.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses, caregivers, and support provided to Lindsay over the last several years.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc.

I’m blessed to have grown up in the neighborhood with Mrs. Svetlay and her family, including her son Ward. I fondly remember the hospitality, friendship and fun of dropping in anytime to their house to chat, play basketball or enjoy a cold soft drink on a summer’s day. She was always cheerful and friendly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and we take comfort in the certainty that we will see her and Ward again.

My last memory of Lindsay was in 1968 while visiting her parents (Uncle George and Aunt Hilda) at their home in Homewood, Alabama. She was a striking lady, easy going and it a pleasure to be in her company. I know that she is fondly remembered by all who were able to appreciate her kindness and gentle manner. She was a blessing to so many and is fondly remembered.
